Jessica Kitzman, one of the art educational assistants at Lionsgate Academy, is one of the artists selected to be a part of B-Girl Be 2010: Carnival’s Sideshow. The interactive visual art exposition, which is a collaboration of seven female Twin Cities’ artists, shows that women have a voice in hip-hop.

Kitzman says that she has three paintings and a mural on display. She added that every artist has contributed a self-portrait to the collection.

The gallery is open to the public from10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday and noon to 5p.m. on Saturdays until September 18 at Intermedia Arts, 2822 Lyndale Ave. South in Minneapolis. There is a suggested $3 donation. A free opening reception is tonight from 7-10.

Congratulations, Jessica!

Dustin Suggs, the drama educational assistant at Lionsgate Academy, will be on stage tonight as Nature opens at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chanhassen.

“It’s about Emerson and Thoreau’s relationship with each other, and nature,” says Suggs, who will be featured in the chorus. According to the show’s website, it will be performed outdoors and was written and produced by TigerLions Arts.

This isn’t Suggs’s first on stage appearance since he joined LGA last year. He has been in two productions of MacBeth, including the production at the Gutherie last spring.

Nature opens tonight at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum tonight and runs until September 5. Showtimes are 6 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays and 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets are $9 for non-Arboretum members, and admission is 2 for 1 on Thursdays.

Break a leg, Dustin!
