Monday 2/28 [A Day]
Daily Question: What should you do if the smoke detector goes off in your house while you are sleeping?
[Answer: get out of house immediately, call 911; other correct answer may include: wake up anyone sleeping, get wet towel to cover mouth, stay low as crawl out of the house, take your cell phone
Also discuss that when batteries are low, a smoke detector may start to beep—this means that new batteries are needed, this does NOT mean that there is a fire

Monday [2/28] A Day
Daily Question – When is the next leap year? Answer: 2012 [every 4 years] Follow-up question: Why do we need a leap year? Answer: Our year is actually 365 ¼ days long; so, every 4 years we need to add another day to our calendar and we add one more day to February every 4 years.
Worksheet: Climate [finish] with seasons demo using flashlight and globe
Demonstrate the power of air:
- Air Pressure using ping-pong ball and hair dryer; Have students predict what will happen when we turn on the blow dryer and place the ping-pong ball above the air flow [guess who long the ball will remain air borne]
- 2 pieces of paper & blow between them [blowing between the papers reduced the air pressure and the air on the outside of the paper pushes on the paper forces the paper pieces together] This demo also illustrates that air is a fluid and can be moved just like a liquid flows. A fluid can be a liquid or a gas. [a bit of chemistry thrown in here!]
Video: Bill Nye – The Atmosphere
Worksheet – Atmosphere [start, if there is time]
Homework: No Homework [see you at conferences!]

This week we will focus on transitioning from our comic book project to our claymation project, while doing some fundraising projects in-between. Students will:
1. Complete their comic books
2. Learn about the different fundraising projects for the Arts Showcase this spring, and make a themed set of magnets.
3. Discuss the upcoming claymation artist in residency. Start brainstorming ideas for projects…think: music video!!
Please bear with us. We are experiencing technical difficulties with our website and we appreciate your patience as our tech team works to remedy the situation. Please call the main office at 763-486-5359 if you need assistance.
There will be no clubs for the week of parent-teachers conferences. However, there will be rehearsals for the spring play on Monday and Thursday at the regularly scheduled time.
