Lionsgate Academy Executive Director Stan Hacker announced today that the Minnesota Department of Education has approved the transfer of the school’s authorizer, from Adler Institute of Minnesota to Novations Educational Opportunities. Minnesota state law requires that a charter school must have an educational organization that meets national standards and holds their schools accountable in meeting expectations. According to its website, the MDE currently recognizes 25 authorizers.

Hacker stated that the news of the approval coming before the possible state government shutdown was welcomed. “We were always confident that Lionsgate Academy would get the necessary approval, but it certainly was a good feeling to finally get the letter from MDE before 7/1/11.”

On March 24, 2011, Lionsgate Academy presented its first ever spring play. The documentary, An Evening With The Greeks, takes you behind the scenes from auditions to the curtain call. The cast, crew and directors work on a condensed schedule to overcome prop damage and several cast members falling ill days before the opening to present a triumphant show.

Lionsgate Academy held its third annual picnic and talent show Sunday at LGA. Students, families and staff were treated to grilled hamburgers and hot dogs along with pizza and chicken wings from Pizza Hut. The instrumental club, school choir, percussion club and the student band, The Alpaca Project performed for over 100 people. Individual students and staff members also sang, danced and told jokes. The following video shows some of the many highlights.
