What’s New In Comprehensive Language Arts

Hi all,

Here is a copy of the parent/guardian letter that will be going home with the students on their first day of Spanish class…

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Hello! My name is Ryan Simenson and I will be the Spanish teacher here at Lionsgate Academy. It was nice meeting you at the Open House, and I look forward to a fun, full year here at Lionsgate.

Learning another language can be fun, but at times can frustrating. I will do my best to provide the students various ways of reviewing the curriculum. For example, I will try to have regular video blogs of key parts of lessons, so if the students would like to review the material online, they will have the opportunity to do so. I will try to link the information that will be on the next test with the video lessons. Also I will post some of the Powerpoint lessons that I use in class on the website as well. To access this material, visit www.lionsgateacademy.org then under the LGA families section, click Classes, then on Spanish. If you don’t know which Spanish class your child is enrolled in, just click on any course, as they are all Spanish 1 and will have the video posts. For those students who would like a faster pace of the course, there will be outlets for that in class as well on the website.

I have attached a syllabus for the Spanish I class, it is also up on the website as well if needed.

My contact information is as follows…

Ryan

Tic-Tac-Toe Activity

Students will choose an activity from the Tic-Tac-Toe chart and create a project to go along with The Outsiders

This course is an introduction to the basic elements of the Spanish language and culture. Students will perform the most basic functions of the language, and become familiar with some elements of the various Spanish speaking cultures. Students will develop the four basic skills of speaking, listening, writing and reading, along with a general introduction to the culture (e.g. food, art, music,).

I will use various language teaching methods, primarily Total Physical Response and the Natural Method. Total Physical Response is a kinesthetic approach to language acquisition, it gets the students physically engaged in the language learning process and has been very effective in my past experience.

Wear your hardhat — Watch out for falling art supplies!

We look forward to a new and exciting year of ART classes! You can look forward to a new teacher (Ms. Kitzman), a new EA (Ms. Nygaard), a newly organized room, and a bunch of new class options! See you soon!

Welcome to a NEW course called Work Based Learning.  Students in the AIM program (ages 18-21) have started this class and you can check a separate page for updates.  For High School Students:  This course will be available to you starting second quarter.

There will be two parts to this course. Part one will be based on the instruction of a variety of physical activities, both group/team and individual. These activities may include: low organized games, soccer, frisbee golf, flag football, orienteering, volleyball, and badminton.

Part two will be the fitness based section of the class where students will have the opportunity to participate in the Olivet Fitness Center. Throughout the semester, the students will learn the major muscle groups of the body and a variety of exercises for those muscles. The F.I.T.T. principle will be taught and employed to ensure that students are engaging in appropriate levels of personal fitness based exercise.
