Lionsgate Academy is an innovative Twin Cities-based Minnesota charter school specifically designed around the needs and potential of higher-functioning students living with Autism.
Developed by parents, health care professionals, educators, researches and advocates, the school integrates autism-specific methods along with:
- adaptive technology
- autism-friendly lighting and furnishings
- community-based learning
- parent supports
- on-site therapeutic and reserach partnerships
Beginning in September 2008, Lionsgate Academy is serving approximately 60-75 students in grades 7-10. 6th, 11th and 12th grades, and transition services for ages 18-21 will be aded in ensuing years to ultimately increase enrollment to approximately 200 students.
As the first and only Minnesota school designed around the specific needs of the middle school and high school students with autism, Lionsgate Academy fills a tremendous community need for this rapidly growing population.
The Mission of Lionsgate Academy is to provide a transition-oriented and personalized learning program focused on high-functioning middle and high school students on the Autism Spectrum.
Lionsgate Academy creates an educational environment using research based instructional practices and techniques so graduates will -to the fullest extent possible- live independently, be involved in further education and/or gainful employment, and develop meaningful relationships with others.
