The LGA Foundation was founded in 2011. The purpose of LGA Foundation is to provide financial support to enhance the programs of Lionsgate Academy and students on the autism spectrum.  To make Lionsgate Academy the high-quality school the founders envisioned, outside support is required. Lionsgate receives state and federal funding which covers basic programming and support service needs, but the school still requires the generosity of the greater philanthropic community to expand its programming.

As a public charter school, our budget and spending are tightly monitored by the Minnesota Department of Education. For this reason, we are working on setting up a Lionsgate Foundation to manage our fundraising activities. This foundation will allow us to use fundraising dollars to fund extra programming not covered by our budget. Examples of these projects might include:

  • Development of our AIM 18-21 program.
  • Exploring the best facilities for our program.
  • Field trips for our students to engage in their greater community.
  • Technology maintenance and new initiatives.
  • Support for after school clubs and extra curricular activities.

What Your Money Funds

  • Pride Field Trips (0) - February 3, 2012

Community involvement and team building is an important aspect of the educational programming at Lionsgate Academy. The foundation has funded pride field trips for all LGA students. Each pride, which is composed of about 10 students, is scheduled a day-long field trip during which they participate in a volunteer experience in the community. Afterward, each prides is involved with an afternoon of team-building at an area entertainment center. Pictured here are two prides at Feed My Starving Children and Brunswick Zone.

  • Soccer Jersey (0) - February 3, 2012

Lionsgate Academy formed its first competitive soccer team in the fall of 2011, comprised of 14 middle school and high school LGA students. The team was led by Ms. Kosher, Ms. Birkhofer, Mr. Gran, Ms. Schmidt and Ms. Twomey. The students played against Groves Academy at Carpenter Park in St. Louis Park on October 25th, 2011. The jerseys worn by the students and coaches were supplied by the Foundation. The Beautiful Game, a film documenting the forming of the soccer team, is currently showing on the Lionsgate Academy YouTube Channel.

  • Computer Storage Tower (0) - August 8, 2011

The good news was that Lionsgate Academy was able to lease 120 new Lenovo laptop computers. The bad news was that there was no existing structure to store them. Over the summer, the Tech team spent several days building storage cabinets, including this eight foot tower of computers. Each shelf holds two new computers and the structure can house up to 96 computers.

  • Computer Room Work Station (0) - July 27, 2011

Last year, the work-station was located in the computer lab/classroom. As one would imagine, this was a distraction for the IT staff and the class. This year, the IT department will be in a separate room. Foundation money went to the supplies needed to build a work-station specifically designed for the tech department.

  • The Lionsgate Community Garden (0) - July 27, 2011

During ESY, several students and staff members planned, planted and tended to the Lionsgate Community Garden. The gardeners planted fruits and vegetables. Foundation money went to buy the materials and the plants.
