Hello Parents/Guardians,

As social media becomes a larger part of where people gather information, we believe that is very important for students to be exposed to how to navigate this world safely. As a part of our Internet Safety study, students have created Internet Safety Blogs. Students will be required to write and post blog entries on all 4 themes of Internet Safety: Passwords and Personal Information, Cyberbullying, Viruses and Money Safety.

Students have the opportunity to share their blogs with staff, families and peers. They will also be practicing how to follow and post positive comments on the blogs of their peers. Both Ms. Bachman and Ms. Ahlgren-McVey will be monitoring student’s blogs and comments – Cyberbullying has been taught and will not be tolerated.

If you would like a link to your students blog (and they have not e-mailed you one already), please feel free to e-mail me at ebachman@lgamn.org and I can share that information with you. Again, this is a great way to get our students involved and working on social interactions on the web.

Thank you,

Ms. Bachman and Ms. Ahlgren-McVey

Bring out your inner Steven Spielberg! In Video Production, students will learn how to operate a video camera, select camera angles and choose where to shoot for the best light and sound quality. Students will create a variety of short films, developing a storyboard, writing scripts and editing footage using Sony Vegas Video Editing software. During the semester-long course, instructional, informational and persuasive videos will be assigned and students will work in groups or individually to complete each. Students will also create a concept for a Capstone Project of their design that they will write, shoot and edit using the skills that they learned from the previous projects. A film festival will celebrate the end of the semester.

  • TYPE TO LEARN 4 - Download for home - October 4, 2011 - ebachman

One major component of Computer Technology is the daily keyboarding instruction and assessment. Students use the program Type to Learn 4 as a guide in their keyboarding practice, and this program is also available for student to download and access from home using an internet connection. Use the link and follow the “Student Use at Home Procedures” to download this program for access at home: http://ttl4.sunburst.com/downloads   The LGA account code is: 131097

Students can access their accounts by using the same log in and passwords they use to log onto computers here at LGA. Usernames are first initial and last name, passwords are their 6 digit birthday. Using that format, mine would be: ebachman AND 080683.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions: ebachman@lgamn.org

  • Daily Lessons - October 4, 2011 - ebachman

I am trying a new format for sharing my daily lessons with students & parents. I am using Google Docs to share this information, so instead of posting something weekly – I will be sharing a real-time document that provides up to date information on our daily lessons. Use the link below to check out what we have been up to in tech class.

HERE is the link to see my daily lessons.

Again, I thought I would try something new to get you the most up to date information, but would love feedback from you! Please let me know if this format is confusing or not user friendly. Thank you!

    • Transitions Classes - October 14, 2011 - Ms. Nemiccola

As we move into Week 7, the Transitions class students are continuing to explore and discuss topics such as perspective taking, appropriate and inappropriate behaviors, social awareness of boundaries, and interpreting communication messages.  This week we began to discuss the nature and art of developing effective communication strategies.

During the next few weeks we will be taking our class quizzes to summarize our topic areas.  Students continue to develop their Social Goals each week and are reviewing their own individual successes.  Students are encouraged to work on goals that are relevant to school or home and already a part of their everyday activities and routines.

Next week we will have a short week so 2 Social Goals will be set for the long weekend to be accomplished.

The goal of Middle School Basic Computer Technology is to engage students, motivate an interest in technology and provide guided practice to increase student safety and confidence with computers and technology. This course will also prepare students for both high school and independent living by teaching technology literacy and developing keyboarding skills using touch typing techniques in daily keyboarding curriculum.
