The goal of this yearlong high school art class is to explore digital computer art. Students will experiment with Adobe programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and video editing software. We will focus on technical skill, preliminary planning, composition, and aesthetics. While most of our work will be done on computers, some drawing will still be expected during the planning process.
Aside from focusing on Minnesota Arts Standards, the Art Department at Lionsgate Academy has three main goals: 1. Develop Creative Problem Solvers: Through out this course we will study the creative method and
use it as a problem-solving tool to guide us through the challenges we face as developing artists.
2. Exploring the Emotive Quality of Art: Aiming to develop students’ creative self, art can serve each
student’s unique needs in social skill development. This equips them with life skills in organization, visual literacy, accountability, time management, and self-reflection that will follow them as they transition into the community.
3. Building Independence in Artistic Processes: This involves creating a balance between encouraging
students’ high interest areas while learning new art techniques and skills. This class is a safe place for students to express their unique ideas and sense of humor!

- Introducing...a Choice-Based Classroom! - March 22, 2012 - Ms. Pautsch
I would like to introduce you to an art education approach that I am starting to integrating into my Computer Art Class for the rest of the school year. I’m VERY excited about this change and anticipate seeing AMAZING work come out of my students!
A Choice-Based Art Classroom, also known as TAB (Teaching Artistic Behavior), is an educational approach that offers a structured way of offering students more choice in their artistic medium and meaning. Students will have opportunities to create art based on their own interests and self-created motivations. It’s no longer about giving them my ideas and assisting in the recreation process…instead, students are coming up with artistic solutions to the problems that they create themselves! I’m very excited to show you the results of this change!
You can learn more about TAB here. Don’t forget to check out my lesson plans, which are updated weekly.
